Airstream dealership set for the Valley

February 26, 1997
Marc Stewart

A Spokane businessman plans to open an Airstream recreational vehicle dealership in Spokane Valley next month.

The dealership, Airstream of Spokane, will be located at 1104 N. Park just south of Interstate 90 and west of Argonne, says Nick Dietz, who will own the operation with his wife, Karyn.

I foresee big growth in the RV market, he says. The affluence, mobility, and disposable income of the baby boomers as they age and retire will have a huge impact on the RV industry.

Airstream of Spokane will sell and service Airstream travel trailers, which will be priced between $35,000 and $95,000, Dietz says. He says the dealership might add touring coaches and motor homes later. The RVs are known for their silvery aluminum exteriors.

The dealership probably will accept trades and likely sell them to wholesale operations, Dietz says.

Airstream of Spokane will be operated by Saturday Harbor Inc., a Spokane Valley company owned by Dietz. The dealership will employ three to five people.

The manufacturer, Airstream Inc., of Jackson Center, Ohio, claims that about 60 percent of all Airstreams ever built still are on the road. Dietz asserts that Airstreams remain popular with RV enthusiasts and collectors. Airstreams are known for their distinct aluminum shells, smooth ride, and spacious interiors.

Dietz previously owned and operated NorWest Distributors Inc., which was a Honda engine distributorship. That business, which was founded in 1986, ceased operations last summer.
