CXT Inc. buildings for sale

Parent declines comment; source says companyÂ’s operations will stay here

February 26, 1997
Rob Strenge

CXT Inc., the Spokane Valley manufacturer of concrete railroad ties and prefabricated concrete buildings, has posted signs at its administrative office building and a nearby building identified as a concrete crossing-panel production plant offering the buildings for sale.

The sale of the two buildings, both located in the 15000 block of East Marietta Avenue, is part of a consolidation of CXT operations and facilities in the Spokane area and the companys operations are not being moved out of town, claims an employee of the company who declines to be identified. CXT had 260 employees at the time it was acquired by the Pittsburgh, Pa.-based L. B. Foster Co. in 1999.

Citing ongoing contract negotiations with CXT employees, Monica Iurlano, L. B. Foster Co. spokeswoman in Pittsburgh, declines to comment. She says only that L. B. Foster has no interest in seeing an article published about CXT at this time. She refuses to confirm or deny whether the parent company might be considering moving CXTs operations from here.

The companys railroad-tie manufacturing plant, immediately to the south of the two buildings that are for sale, and the prefabricated-building manufacturing plant, located in Building 7 at The Spokane Business Industrial Park, both appear to remain in operation.
