Applebee’s may open new restaurant at ‘Y’

Franchisee seeking location in north Spokane to lease land for third restaurant

February 26, 1997
Adrienne C. Dellwo

The franchisee for Applebees Neighborhood Grill restaurants in a territory that includes Spokane is seeking land near the North Division Y for its third Applebees restaurant here.

The Atlanta-based Restaurant Concepts wants to lease land on which it can build a new restaurant, says Debbie Passmore, regional vice president of operations for the company. Passmore works in Restaurant Concepts regional headquarters in Portland, Ore.

Currently, the company is negotiating a lease arrangement, and hopes to start construction on the outlet sometime in November, Passmore says. She declines to say precisely where the piece of land is that the company is looking at, but confirms that its near the Y formed by the intersection of U.S. 2 and U.S. 395 in North Spokane.

The project is expected to cost between $1.5 million and $2.2 million and would take about 100 days to complete, Passmore says. A contractor for the project hasnt been sought yet, and Applebees International Inc., the Overland Park, Kan.-based franchiser of the chain restaurants, will supply the architectural design, she says.
