Hotel near airport to undergo $4M renovation

Wingate will rebrand as Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott

February 29, 2024

A renovation and rebranding project valued at roughly $4 million is being planned for the Wingate by Wyndham Spokane Airport hotel, at 2726 S. Flint Road.

Following the proposed renovations, the hotel will be rebranded as a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott hotel, says Logan May, director of hotel opening and capital improvement for Fargo, North Dakota-based Tharaldson Hospitality Management LLC.

“We’re going to treat this as a brand-new hotel opening,” he says.

As previously reported by the Journal, Tharaldson acquired the hotel on Nov. 2 from Prosper, Texas-based Flight Deck Spokane LP for an undisclosed amount.

The planned renovations, which will be completed in two phases so the hotel can remain open during construction, are expected to begin in June or July and to wrap up by the end of the first quarter in 2025, May says.

Minneapolis-based Schoenfelder Renovations Inc. is listed on the building permit application as the project’s contractor. Las Vegas-based DesignCell LLC is the project’s architect, and Fargo-based Martin Mechanical Design Inc. is the project’s engineer.

Ten rooms will be added to the 51,000-square-foot hotel, bringing the total room count up to 93 rooms, May says.

“We feel like that will be a great addition for people coming and going through the airport there,” he says.

The project will consist of renovating existing guest rooms, guest bathrooms, and corridors to adhere to the standards required by Marriott for its Fairfield hotels, the permit application shows.

Also included in the project will be renovations of the lobby areas and exterior cosmetic upgrades, planning records show. The porte cochere at the building’s main entrance will be partly demolished to accommodate new finishes.

Tharaldson also owns the neighboring SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel, at 8967 W. Airport Drive, as well as Staybridge Suites Coeur d’Alene, at 1347 W. Riverstone Drive, in Coeur d'Alene.

Nationwide, Tharaldson owns 87 hotels.
