From intern to chief executive of Spokane-based ALSC Architects PS, Indy Dehal is leaving his mark on Spokane’s architectural landscape.

Dehal’s career at the firm spans 23 years and includes working on health care, schools, and historic restoration projects.

Dehal continues to serve his alma mater by mentoring students through Washington State University’s School of Architecture capstone project. He also serves as a mentor to high school students and leads mission trips for his church.

Dehal says he’s committed to giving his time and talent back to the community.

Education: Bachelor of architecture, bachelor’s of science in architectural studies, Washington State University.

What's a fact about you that most people would be surprised to learn? I am a first-generation East Indian. My mom immigrated in 7th grade, and my dad did after getting married to my mom through an arranged marriage.

What's the best piece of advice you've received? Find a path that aligns with your passions and interests, actively learn and develop new skills, build a strong network, be open to new opportunities, and prioritize continuous improvement.

Why did you choose to do what you do?  My dad, an electrical engineer, and his co-worker, an architect, were designing our childhood home. This was a great introduction to architecture for me. I love how architecture is a mix of art and science.
