The Azteca Mexican Restaurant in North Spokane will close July 20, the restaurant chain announced through social media this week.
Azteca has been serving guests at 9738 N. Newport Highway, in the Northpointe Plaza, for more than two decades.
“The lease has ended, and the owners have decided to pursue other ventures,” a representative of Azteca told the Journal in an email. “At this time, no other Azteca locations are closing.”
Founded in 1973, the Burien, Washington-based restaurant chain has a dozen other restaurants across the state, including one in the Spokane Valley Mall, at 14700 E. Indiana.
Azteca previously operated a restaurant located in downtown Spokane, at 245 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., but that location converted into a Maracas Mexican Grill in 2019. Boiada Brazilian Grill now operates out of that space.
The Northpointe property where Azteca is located is owned by KRG Spokane Northpointe LLC, which owns the majority of land parcels located at the Northpointe Plaza, Spokane County records show. KRG Spokane is an affiliate of Kite Realty Group LP, an Indianapolis-based real estate investment trust.
