Five months following the opening of Jam Pod LLC, which does business as JamPod, a music rehearsal space at 2012 E. Sprague, Spokane entrepreneur Charlie Lindsley is expanding the business with the launch of a new indoor market at the East Central venue.

Dubbed Side Hustle Saturdays, the new weekly indoor market launched in January hosts small businesses, makers, and artisans from noon to 6 p.m. every Saturday. Market expansion is under consideration to operate on both Saturdays and Sundays by spring, he adds.

"I still have bands practicing while the market’s going on," Lindsley says, noting that one band, Atomic Cobra, recently made an impression on market patrons as they rehearsed alongside shoppers.

Lindsley credits Carla Klauder, who joined JamPod in December, with managing vendors and coordinating the market.

“Easy, accessible, and affordable,” Lindsley says. “That’s what we’re all about. It’s a cool place now, and it’s going to be even cooler a year from now.”

Lindsley launched JamPod in August motivated to fill a gap in the city's music scene by providing a place for musicians to practice without noise or space restrictions, he says.

“I would go out to open mics, and when people would ask to play and jam together more afterward, there wasn’t a space for it,” he says. “We all lived in apartments and were fighting the limitations of space and noise policies.”

JamPod offers seven rehearsal pods, each equipped with guitar and bass amps, drum kits, and public-address systems. Musicians also can bring their own instruments to the site, which is alcohol-free to provide for a safe and accessible place to practice for all musicians.

“Parents with kids that want to start high school bands, your kids can come here and make as much noise as they want and not bug you in your house,” Lindsley says.

JamPod's hourly rehearsal rates start at $20 an hour for one to two people and $30 an hour for three or more. Additionally, the main floor is available for $40 an hour and booking the entire building costs $120 an hour.

Looking ahead, Lindsley says he hopes JamPod will continue to grow, form partnerships with creators, and provide an outlet for quality goods.

“Whatever is cool should be here, and it should be available for people to purchase,” he says.
