Ashley and Dylan Cone are hosting a soft opening for their new studio, Photo Mart, on Oct. 31.
| Ethan PackElectric Photoland is renovating a 1,000-square-foot, public-facing location at River Park Square to open Photo Mart, an in-person studio for photo shoots and group experiences.
Co-founders Ashley and Dylan Cone say the new location will feature several themed photo booths, customizable merchandise including keychains and postcards, and nostalgic photo booth experiences.
“We want to create nostalgia and that experience of going to a Kmart one-hour photo or Olan Mills or J.C. Penney — kind of that vibe,” says Ashley Cone. “We really want to create that when people come in.”
She says the studio space features swaths of primary colors to evoke the feeling of stopping by a Fotomat — a defunct chain of drive-thru photo development kiosks. A hallway runs lengthwise through Photo Mart, leading to a large, glass-enclosed photo room and several small booths.
While Electric Photoland plans to continue operating its mobile photo booth service out of its main space at 174 S. Howard, the physical location on the second floor of River Park Square, at 808 W. Main, will help meet customer demand for walk-in photo appointments, says Dylan Cone.
“When our equipment is at our studio, it’s broken down and packaged up, ready to pick up for an event,” he says. “We’re not set up for people to just drop by, so that was one of the motivations for this space, because we saw that need.”
Planned amenities include a variety of self-serve photo booths in the lobby and a free security-style camera setup for use on the exterior of Photo Mart, Ashley Cone says. Renovation work is also underway on a larger photo studio, where a photographer will take individual or group photos.
Other photo rooms include an “aura room,” which Ashley Cone describes as a personalized photography experience featuring an aura reader, and a Korean photo booth experience, where customers choose their own photo styles, printing options, props, and more.
After taking photos, customers can design and order custom prints, keychains, posters, photo rolls, and other items as part of the experience. Printing services will only include photos taken through Electric Photoland, Dylan Cone specifies.
Ashley Cone declines to disclose the cost to renovate the space or the company's latest annual revenue. The couple is renovating the space themselves, in preparation for an Oct. 31 soft opening followed by a grand opening in January.
Electric Photoland expects to hire up to five employees at Photo Mart, which will operate seven days a week, Dylan Cone adds.
The company is working with student consultants from Gonzaga University’s New Venture Lab to work out pricing, which is still tentative, Ashley Cone says. The couple is aiming to make the experience affordable for customers.
The New Venture Lab partners student consultant groups with business owners and entrepreneurs to solve business problems, according to Gonzaga's website.
Electric Photoland, a trade name of Cone Ventures Inc., was founded in 2019 and provides artistic photo and video experiences at events, the Journal previously reported. It was named Small Business of the Year by the Journal in 2025.
