Sky One Looking to Expand

Company plans to lease space while exploring next move

August 1, 2019

Spokane Valley-based aerospace repair and overhaul company SkyOne Aerospace LLC plans to expand into 18,000 square feet of industrial space to accommodate the company’s expected growth.

Gary Owens, president and owner of the aerospace company, says the company has been planning its move for some time.

It’s currently in negotiations for a short-term lease for the larger space at 5217 E. Broadway in Spokane Valley as a temporary solution to its expansion plans, he says. If the lease is approved, Owens says he expects the company will occupy the new space as early as this week.

He asserts the company eventually will need an estimated 30,000 square feet to fully accommodate the company’s expected growth.

Ideally, the company would like to buy property for a new facility in either Spokane Valley or the West Plains area, Owens says.

Minutes from the West Plains-Airport Area Public Development Authority meetings show SkyOne was exploring the idea of occupying 50,000 square feet of space in a 125,000-square-foot building it would share with an unnamed company.

Owens says SkyOne still is exploring its options for moving to the West Plains.

He says the company had looked at purchasing land in Spokane Valley earlier this year, but a deal fell through, and the company decided to turn to the short-term solution of leasing property while it continues looking for a more permanent option.

SkyOne briefly explored the idea of purchasing space in Post Falls, he says, but ultimately the company opted to stay in Washington.

The company will continue occupying its existing 5,000-square-foot space in a multitenant building at 2205 N. Woodruff Road, until its lease is up at the end of October, Owens says. Owens says the company then will consider vacating the property, depending on how much equipment the company can fit in its new space.

He says that SkyOne recently acquired a couple of commercial truckloads of equipment to add new capabilities and services and is expecting another delivery of equipment from Australia this month.

The Broadway Avenue property is owned by J&M Hamlin LLC, of Spokane Valley, according to Spokane County Assessor’s records.

SkyOne currently has 17 employees, Owens says; he expects that number will double within the next three years.

Doug Byrd, of Spokane-based Byrd Real Estate Group, handled the leasing transaction.

SkyOne Aerospace was founded in 2015 and specializes in repair and overhaul of aircraft oil controls.
