With the opening of a Fyzical Therapy & Balance Center of Spokane, at 910 N. Washington, Columbia Surgical Specialists PS has expanded its practice here.
Dr. Michael Olds, an ear, nose, and throat surgeon with Columbia Surgical Specialists, describes the Fyzical Therapy & Balance franchise as an expansion of the services already offered by Columbia Surgical Specialists.
“As physicians involved in the care of patients with dizziness, balance problems after trauma, ear disease, and head and neck disorders, we have a unique perspective on the breadth and extent of balance issues in our patients,” says Olds, who now serves as medical director for Fyzical Therapy & Balance. “Bringing a more comprehensive balance and vestibular treatment program to the Spokane area fits with our goal of offering patients a premier healthcare experience.”
Columbia Surgical Specialists is a medical group that operates three medical clinics here: a main clinic neighboring Fyzical Therapy & Balance, at 217 W. Cataldo; a North Side clinic, at 9922 N. Nevada; and a Spokane Valley clinic, at 13414 E. Mission, as well as ancillary services in two additional locations.
The group consists of three divisions; Spokane Ear, Nose, & Throat Clinic PS, Surgical Specialists of Spokane, and Columbia Hearing Centers. The group includes 52 providers treating patients across multiple specialties and employs an additional 130 people across its locations.
Olds says the group had been exploring options for a physical therapy and balance retraining center for more than a decade and began the process of starting a Fyzical Therapy & Balance franchise just over a year ago.
“We were extremely impressed with their approach to the problem, the success they were able to demonstrate at multiple centers throughout the country, and the focused approach they brought to the equation through patient outcomes, metrics, and well-established interventions,” he says.
Olds says the Fyzical Therapy & Balance franchise now occupies a 4,000-square-foot space on the second floor of the multiuse Washington Street building formerly occupied by the group’s billing services.
He says the group also provides physical therapy and audiology services there in a second-floor space across from the newly opened Fyzical Therapy & Balance location.
Olds says the group chose the Fyzical Therapy & Balance franchise model for its proven track record of success, as well as methods of oversight that help to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.
“The model is somewhat exacting, but this is to ensure a consistent patient experience with well-defined goals for people with balance and vestibular disorders,” he says. “As a member of the franchise network, we also have access to large pools of data helping to guide our intervention as to what works best for people as they move through this program.”
Olds says there are currently four Fyzical Therapy & Balance employees; two physical therapists, one physical therapy assistant, and a front office coordinator.
Fyzical Therapy & Balance is a Florida-based franchise that offers physical therapy, balance retraining and fall prevention, sports rehabilitation, fitness programs, and individual wellness programs. The company has more than 335 centers in 41 states.
