Kirishian's Imported Rug Co. acquires cleaning company

Acquired company moves into rug retailer's building

May 10, 2018

Kirishian’s Imported Rug Co., of Spokane, has purchased the assets of AAmerican Cleaning Bob’s Inc., formerly based in Spokane Valley.

Owner Richard Kirishian has moved the cleaning company into the Kirishian’s Imported Rug building at 220 E. Second, just east of downtown Spokane, and renamed the business American Cleaning by Kirishian’s.

The 70-year-old cleaning company, formerly located at 2709 S. Dishman-Mica Road in Spokane Valley, was purchased in 1980 by Kathie Sculley-Scott, who retired earlier this month and sold the business to Kirishian.

AAmerican Cleaning’s three-longtime employees have joined Kirishian’s current six-person staff at its Second Avenue store.

One of those employees, former AAmerican Cleaning office manager Kathy Holloway, now serves as a scheduler for American Cleaning by Kirishian’s.

“It was a very smooth transition for all of us former employees,” she says. “Everyone has been really supportive, and we’re really enjoying it here.”

She says the new company will continue to provide all the same services offered under its former name, including carpet, upholstery, drapery, blinds, tile, hard-surface, and hardwood floor cleaning.

According to Holloway, Kirishian decided to purchase AAmerican Cleaning because he and Sculley-Scott have maintained a close working relationship and friendship during the last 20 years, and the two companies offer complementary services.

Holloway says Kirishian declined to disclose exact figures of the transaction, which was complete May 1, saying only that it was a cash purchase of the company name, customers, and equipment.

Looking ahead, Holloway says Kirishian hopes to continue to grow AAmerican Cleaning, with plans to modernize its departments, add additional technicians, and improve customer relations.

The company, which specializes in the sale, cleaning, and repair of Oriental rugs, opened its first retail store here in 1920.
