Central Valley School District has $68.8 million in projects underway

Central Valley School District is well underway with construction of three new schools with a total construction cost of $68.8 million.

Work on a fourth project, a new $30 million middle school in Liberty Lake, is scheduled to start next month.

The largest of the three current projects is the new $29.9 million North Pines Middle School, which is being constructed at 11900 E. Broadway, just west of the middle school’s current location. Garco Construction Inc., of Spokane, started work on the 86,000-square-foot building in March 2017 and is on pace to complete it in August, prior to the start of the 2018-19 school year.

ALSC Architects PS, of Spokane, designed the middle school.

Construction of the $19 million new Riverbend Elementary School, at 17720 E. Mission in Spokane Valley, is scheduled to be completed before the 2018-19 school year as well. The 64,800-square-foot structure is expected to have a maximum capacity of about 540 students.

T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane Valley, is the general contractor on that project, and MMEC Architecture & Interiors LLC, of Spokane, designed the building.

Another elementary school project, the $19.9 million rebuild of Ponderosa Elementary, is expected to be completed next month. The 64,000-square-foot school is being built at 10105 E. Cimmaron Drive, just east of the school’s current building. It will be able to accommodate up to 500 students, 150 more than the current school building.

T.W. Clark and MMEC are the builder and architect, respectively, on that project, also.

CVSD spokeswoman Marla Nunberg says the designs for both Riverbend and Ponderosa elementary schools are site-adapted versions of the design used for Liberty Creek Elementary School, which opened in Liberty Lake last fall.

For the new, yet-to-be-named middle school in Liberty Lake, CVSD is soliciting construction bids and expects to select a contractor soon. ALSC Architects designed that school as well. In similar fashion to the strategy used at the elementary schools, the Liberty Lake middle school design is a site-adapted version of the one created for North Pines.

The Liberty Lake middle school project will be the first of several to be paid for through a $129.9 million bond approved by voters in February. Other projects to be funded through that bond include a $95 million new high school along Henry Road, for which a summer 2019 construction start is scheduled, and a $30 million makeover at Horizon Middle School, at 3915 S. Pines Road.
