Behavioral Health hospital takes shape

$34 million project to be completed this summer

A new $34 million behavioral health hospital is taking form at the base of Spokane’s South Hill and is scheduled to be completed this summer.

The three-story, 67,000-square-foot building, which will house 100 patient rooms, is being built at 104 W. Fifth, where the Fifth & Browne Medical Building once stood, north and down the hill from Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital.

Bouten Construction Co., of Spokane, is the general contractor on the project and broke ground on it last May. NAC Architecture, also of Spokane, is the main architect.

The hospital is a joint venture between Renton, Wash.-based Providence St. Joseph Health and Kirkland, Wash.-based Fairfax Behavioral Health.

A little-used construction method known as integrated project delivery has been employed on the hospital project. With integrated project delivery, the owner, contractor, architects, and key subcontractors are involved throughout the project and share in the project’s profitability and risk.

In addition to Bouten, NAC, and the owner, companies involved in the integrated project delivery contract on the hospital include Boulder Associates, of Boulder, Colo.; Buehler & Buehler Structural Engineers Inc., of Sacramento, Calif.; the Spokane office of DCI Engineers Inc.; Mackin & Little Inc., of Spokane; MJM Grand Inc., of Airway Heights; MSI Engineers, of Spokane; NAC Engineering, of Spokane; Performance Contracting Inc., of Spokane; Summit Electric LLC, of Post Falls; and Temp-Control Mechanical Corp., of Kennewick, Wash.
