New owners take over at LCD Exposition Services

Sellers sought to keep company independent

January 18, 2018

Spokane couple Stuart and Rosie Boylan have purchased longtime exhibitor services and special events rental company LCD Exposition Services.

The Boylans acquired the company, located at 220 E. Augusta, last month from previous co-owners Ken Quimby and Barbara Lockhard.

Founded in 1969, LCD sets up exhibitions, booths, and displays for events that include automotive and boat shows, conventions, meetings, and weddings, at locations here, in North Idaho, in Western Montana, and in Reno, Nev., Boylan says.

At the request of Quimby and Lockhard, the Boylans decline to disclose the terms of the transaction.

Stuart Boylan says LCD has a full-time staff of 16 employees and a half-dozen part-time employees who work on an as-needed basis.

Boylan says he expects the company will hire additional employees this year.

The Boylans met Quimby and Lockhard—who aren’t a married couple—through a business broker, Stuart Boylan says.

Boylan says he and his wife are leasing the building from owners Quimby and Lockhard and have the option to purchase it in two years.

“My understanding is they listed the company about four or five years ago, but they weren’t interested in selling it to be gobbled up by a larger company or a competitor,” he says.

Quimby and Lockhard decided not to sell it then, but as they approached retirement age, however, Boylan says the co-owners began the search anew.
