Inaugural Crave NW food, drink event set for June

Organizers hope for national appeal

May 25, 2017

Like Miami’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival and Oregon’s culinary bounty FeastPortland, the organizers of next month’s Crave NW in Spokane Valley want to put together an annual event that will rival those nationally recognized festivals.

Crave NW will make its four-day debut June 15-18 at the 54,000-square-foot CenterPlace Regional Event Center, at 2426 N. Discovery Place.

Event publicist John Stevens says Crave NW is the brainchild of its culinary director, Spokane chef and restaurateur Adam Hegsted.

“Adam drew his inspiration from South Beach and Feast in Portland. He decided this is something Spokane and Coeur d’Alene can support,” Stevens says. “The ultimate goal is to make this a yearly event drawing visitors to the area.”

Hegsted owns and operates the Wandering Table and Yards Bruncheon, both in Kendall Yards, and The Gilded Unicorn in downtown Spokane. His catering company, Le Catering, last year signed a five-year deal to be the exclusive caterer for CenterPlace Regional Event Center.

Despite its regional name, nationally acclaimed chefs, wineries, and breweries have committed to being present at Crave NW, according to Stevens.

Crave NW kicks off on a Thursday with a seafood bash from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, a tasting will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with samples from dozens of chefs, food purveyors, wineries, breweries, and cocktail and craft-drink providers. A street food market with a carnival theme will follow from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Another grand tasting will occur Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and will be followed with a barbecue bash, called Fire & Smoke, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort & Hotel is sponsoring the event, and members of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe will provide live entertainment.

The event will conclude with a Father’s Day brunch on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Craft NW will feature wine and champagne from Northwest award-winning wineries such as Northstar Winery, Col Solare Winery, and Liberty Lake Wine Cellars, Stevens says.

As for beers, offerings from Belgium-based Stella Artois, New York-based Blue Point Brewing, and Spokane-based River City Brewing will be available for tastings, Stevens says.

Tickets for Grand Tastings start at $25, the seafood bash is $75, and the street food market, Fire & Smoke, and brunch cost $45 before June 1.

Proceeds from Crave events will go to the nonprofits Second Harvest and Big Table, says Stevens.
