O'Quinn to leave county post

Commissioner takes CEO job at Inland Northwest Community Foundation

April 12, 2017
Staff Report

Spokane County said this morning that Commissioner Shelly O’Quinn has accepted the position of CEO for the Inland Northwest Community Foundation and will leave the board of commissioners in June.

Per state law, three candidates to replace O’Quinn will be chosen by the Spokane County Republican Precinct Committee Officers, and remaining commissioners Al French and Josh Kerns are expected to select a successful candidate from that pool.

O’Quinn, who has served as county commissioner since 2013, said in a press release, “Through the remainder of my time with the board, I will remain committed to a smooth transition and focus on our county’s priorities in the Legislature.”

The Inland Northwest Community Foundation said in its own release that O’Quinn was selected following a nationwide search that attracted 55 applicants.

Bob Bishopp, the foundation’s board chairman, said, “In Shelly O’Quinn, we found a change agent with a track record of engaging diverse organizations to develop strategic initiatives and achieve common goals.”

O’Quinn will replace Mark Hurtubise, who announced last September that he planned to retire. Hurtubise led the organization for 12 years, and during his tenure, the foundation grew from $47 million to $110 million in assets
