Recall charges filed against Mayor Condon

Malfeasance alleged in police chief firing

August 16, 2016
Staff Report

Spokane accountant David Green filed  recall charges this afternoon against Spokane Mayor David Condon, citing several alleged instances of malfeasance related to the firing of former Police Chief Frank Straub.

Green is the managing member of David Green CPA PLLC, which is located at 528 E. Spokane Falls Blvd., just east of downtown Spokane, and serves as the chairman of the 3rd Legislative District for the Spokane County Democrats.

The Spokane County Auditor’s Office will be forwarding the charges to the Spokane County prosecuting attorney, who is responsible for writing a ballot synopsis. The prosecuting attorney has 15 days to forward the ballot synopsis to Spokane County Superior Court, which will determine whether the charges rise to the level of misfeasance, malfeasance, or violation of the oath of office. If the court determines in favor of the recall charge, the sponsors can begin collecting signatures.

Condon was elected as Spokane’s mayor in 2012. He won re-election last year, becoming the first Spokane mayor in 40-plus years to do so.
