Starbucks considers beer, wine in shop here

Company mulls debuting evening menu in Spokane

May 5, 2016

Starbucks Corp., of Spokane, says it’s thinking about introducing Starbucks Evenings—the serving of beer and wine—at a North Side coffee shop located at 4727 N. Division, across the street from NorthTown Mall.

The company applied for a beer and wine license with the Washington State Liquor Control Board for that store in February.

The store is operated in approximately 1,000 square feet of space.

Starbucks introduced beer, wine and extended food menus to a handful of cities around the U.S. last year. In Washington state, the only Starbucks outlets serving beer and wine in the evening hours are in the Seattle area, says the company’s website.

The evening menu features wine, craft beer, and small plates of food. Coffee, tea, and pastries are still available in the evening, says the company.

In an email response to a Journal of Business inquiry, Starbucks says it’s in the early stages of considering Spokane for the evening menu.

“It’s a long and thoughtful process, and the permit filing is just one of many steps we take,” says the email message from Starbucks’ media relations team.

Starbucks says it doesn’t have additional details to share at this time.
