Spokane-based Fasteners acquired by Fastenal

Big chain to complete purchase soon

Fastenal Co., a large Winona, Minn.-based industrial and construction supplies chain that has operations here, says it has acquired certain assets of Fasteners Inc., a Spokane-based regional distributor with stores in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana.

Fastenal said in a press release that it expected the agreement to be completed by the end of October.

Fasteners, with operations here at 4220 E. Broadway, was founded in 1961. It now includes 13 stores and was anticipating 2015 revenues of about $36 million. As its name implies, the company focuses on fastener products, but also sells a broad range of industrial supplies.

“We feel this is a great opportunity to grow our operations within the Pacific Northwest,” said Dan Florness, executive vice president and CFO of Fastenal in the press release. 

Dennis Hanson, president and owner of Fasteners, said in the press release, “I am extremely excited about the opportunity for the business and our employees to move forward with Fastenal. Fastenal brings an enormous supply capability and cost savings technologies to our customers. This union will help us grow and better serve our customers, while maintaining the excellent quality and service our customers expect.”

The press release didn’t disclose the financial terms of the transaction or say what impact the transaction will have on Fasteners’ operation here or whether some its stores will close.

Fastenal sells industrial and construction supplies that range from threaded fasteners, tools, blades, abrasives, and material-handling products to janitorial, paint, electrical, welding, safety, and office supplies. It operates about 2,600 stores located mostly in North America, with additional locations in Asia, Europe, Central and South America, and Africa.
