Sandpoint entrepreneur starts website for adventure junkies

Rush-On provides online access to adventure deals

Rush-On LLC, of Sandpoint, has launched an online clearinghouse for adventure junkies—or anyone desiring to experience bucket list-worthy activities, says entrepreneur Devin Dufenhorst, Rush-On’s CEO.

Located in the Sandpoint Center at 414 Church Street in Sandpoint’s central business district, Rush-On aims to connect adventure enthusiasts with outfitters via its website and mobile app, Dufenhorst says.

Most adventure merchants in Rush-On’s network specialize in outdoor thrills or extreme sports, including Coeur d’Alene-based ROW Inc., which offers guided whitewater trips all over the globe, and Silver Streak Zipline Tours Inc., of Wallace, which has two zipline courses with a total of 10 ziplines on 250 acres of mountain terrain.

“Rush-On just went live a couple of weeks ago, and now we’re contacting merchants and putting up deals.” Dufenhorst says. “We have 700 merchants in our database. We’re going to have more coming up every couple of days.”

Prices for such thrills range from $20 for an indoor wall-climbing course in Spokane to upwards of $20,000 for a pilot training course that includes the opportunity to break the sound barrier in a Russian fighter jet, Dufenhorst says.

Through Rush-On’s online services, adventure companies can fill openings to operate at optimal capacity and receive additional exposure online, while consumers can save time and money searching for their next exploit, Dufenhorst claims.

“We want to offer a cool interface that inspires people to go out and do something never done before,” he says.

The mobile app helps people find deals wherever they travel, Dufenhorst says.

“If you take a trip to Hawaii and have the mobile app, you can see all of the deals in that area as soon as you land,” he says. “It’s a good way for adventure merchants to fill last-minute capacity.”

Under its initial business plan, Rush-On hopes to generate revenue from commissions on deals the company helps arrange, Dufenhorst says, adding, “In the future, we hope to make money off banner ads and click-through ads.”

Rush-On currently has four full-time employees, including two former Coldwater Creek executives, Web developer Carlo Pati and marketer Kara Berlin. Pati is Rush-On’s chief technology officer, and Berlin is the company’s marketing manager.

Dufenhorst, 47, grew up in Boise where he was a ski racer in his youth. After attending the University of Idaho, he was a Marine Corps pilot, then he was a competitive ski jumper for 10 years, he says.

“We live it,” Dufenhorst says. “We’re adventure doers and adventure seekers.”
