The Spokane Airport Board awarded three projects totaling more than $570,000 last month to three Eastern Washington contractors, says airport spokesman Todd Woodard.

In the largest of the three projects, the board awarded a second-phase Airport Drive landscaping project to Hidden River Irrigation & Landscaping, of Spokane, in the amount of $314,000. That project will include installing irrigation and landscaping along a 1-mile stretch of westbound Airport Drive between Flint and Spotted roads, Woodard says. The project is expected to begin early this month and last until mid-October.

The first phase of the project, finished last year, involved installing irrigation, lighting, and landscaping along both eastbound and westbound Airport Drive between Spotted Road and the terminal. Spokane-based Clearwater Summit Group Inc. completed that approximately $700,000 project.

The second project, awarded to Newman Lake-based William Winkler Co., involves replacing sidewalks and wheelchair-accessible ramps at the SIA terminal, Felts Field, and the Airport Business Park located just southeast of SIA, Woodard says. In addition to sidewalk work in and around the airports and business park, the contractor will add a new sidewalk nearest the terminal that would run adjacent to the Ramada Inn at Spokane Airport and Wingate by Wyndham Spokane Airport hotel.

New curb also will be installed in front of the Ground Transportation Center, where rental car companies and shuttles are located. The $174,000 project began July 22 and is expected to be finished by early September, he says.

In the third project, Spokane-based Linoleum & Carpet City is the contractor for an $83,000 project to repaint and replace carpet in 5,800 square feet of building space leased by the Transportation Security Administration in the Airport Business Park, at 7904 W. Pilot Drive.

The building upgrades are expected to take 45 working days to complete, Woodard says, and work will begin once carpet is delivered.

All three airport projects are paid for through airport general revenue, which is raised through lease agreements, parking fees, and other programs used by airport and business park customers.
