Ace to lay off 86 at former Jensen Distribution facility

Job cuts at West Plains warehouse to start in May

Ace Hardware Corp., the Oak Brook, Illinois-based hardware retailers’ cooperative that acquired Spokane-based Jensen Distribution Services in 2015, plans to lay off 86 employees here, according to a notice filed with the Washington state Employment Security Department.

The ESD’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice says the layoffs at the 10110 W. Aero Road facility, on the West Plains, will begin on May 17.

ESD says in the WARN posting, “Staff from the local rapid response team and WorkSource center will perform outreach to employees of the organization to ease the transition.”

Jensen Distribution Services had 254 employees when the 140-year-old company was acquired by Ace Hardware seven years ago, the Journal earlier reported.

A representative of Ace Hardware couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.

In February, Ace Hardware reported 2022 net income of $340.6 million, an increase of $10.6 million from the previous year. The company posted fourth-quarter 2022 revenue of $2.2 billion, an increase of $124.5 million, or 6%, from the year-earlier quarter. Full-year revenue was a record $9.2 billion, an increase of $575.6 million, or 6.7%, from 2021.
