The Elephant Boys, a Spokane Valley discount boat dealer, has moved a few hundred feet west and into the former Liquidation World building, where the dealership has more than tripled its space, says owner Ed Conley.

The Elephant Boys now occupies 36,000 square feet of leased space at 12606 E. Sprague. The dealership had occupied 10,000 square feet of floor space next to the Spokane Valley White Elephant Surplus toy and sporting goods store.

Conley says the company plans to debut the new facilities with a 24-day boat show. The inaugural event at the larger store, which he bills as "Spokane Valley's First Boat Show," will run from Jan. 25 to Feb. 17.

"This will be different than a regular boat show, where you pay admission," he says. "There will be lots of chitchat time, but no pressure, and no commissioned salesmen."

Conley says the show also will feature some fishing seminars.

The store recently added two employees to bring its total workforce to six, including two certified marine technicians, he says.

The new location makes The Elephant Boys one of the largest discount marine stores in the Pacific Northwest, Conley claims.

"We have two levels of aluminum and fiberglass boats," he says of the new facility, adding the store also has a service department for boats, outboard motors, and trailers.

The Elephant Boys carries KingFisher, Lowe, River Hawk, and Campion boats, as well as Old-Town kayaks and canoes. The dealership also carries Carnai boat trailers and sells and services Mercury, Evinrude, and Tohatsu outboard motors.

Conley, a former co-owner of White Elephant, left that family-owned company in 2007 to concentrate on selling boats.

"When I was working at White Elephant, we had one isle of marine boating supplies," he says, adding that The Elephant Boys dealership now takes up more space than the entire neighboring White Elephant store.

The dealership draws customers from throughout Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, Conley asserts.

"Boating has just exploded for us," he says.

Liquidation World closed its Spokane Valley store in 2010.
