ReliantRX opens wellness clinic in U-District

Pharmacy's new division offers vaccinations, other health-related services

December 20, 2012
Jessica Valencia

ReliantRX LLC, a long-term care pharmacy here, has formed a new wellness clinic, called Reliant LifeWorks Pharmacy & Wellness Clinic, to provide vaccinations, health coaching, and other health-care services.

Edie Ward, clinic director and registered pharmacist, says ReliantRX began developing Reliant LifeWorks in February and formally opened the clinic last week. ReliantRX and LifeWorks share about 6,000 square feet of office space in the Innovate Washington Building, at 120 N. Pine in the U-District.

Ward says ReliantRX's pharmacists offer health coaching, or consultations, through the clinic depending on their respective specialties, such as consultation in weight loss, nutrition, and pain management. In addition to health coaching, Ward says patients' vital signs can be monitored and lab samples can be drawn at the clinic.

About 20 of ReliantRX's 50 employees work in both the pharmacy and the health clinic.

Ward says the clinic has been part of ReliantRX's business plan since its inception five years ago. She says ReliantRX has long-term plans to add an infusion suite for patients who require intravenous medication on a regular basis, but hasn't set a start date for that addition yet.

As the business grows, she says, the company has long-term plans to move out of the Innovate Washington Building and purchase a building for the pharmacy and clinic.

Ward says the pharmacy and clinic plan to extend its health care services to students in the U-District in the future.

ReliantRX opened in 2007 and formerly occupied a roughly 7,000-square-foot building at 125 S. Cowley.
