Spokane County ranks eighth among Washington state counties in terms of per-capita retail sales in a 2012 Washington State retail survey released late last month.

The survey, issued by Jim Vaughn, of Pollock Pines, Calif., lists Spokane County's per-capita retail sales at just under $8,580, behind the $8,790 per-capita sales reported for Thurston County, for which Olympia is the county seat, but ahead of $8,560 for Snohomish County, north of Seattle with Everett as the seat.

At $8,580 in per-capita sales, Spokane County is above the average reported for all 39 Washington counties, which came in at just more than $8,500.

Skagit (county seat: Mount Vernon) and King (Seattle) counties were the only two with per-capita sales that crested $10,000. Skagit County, ranked No. 1, had $10,840 in per-capita sales, and King County, came in at $10,690.

Skamania County, located in rural southwestern Washington, finished at the bottom of the list, with $1,840 in per-capita sales.
