DeVries Moving owners buy East Spokane buildings

January 19, 2012
Chey Scott

Mike and Becky DeVries, owners of Spokane-based DeVries Moving Packing Storage, recently bought two East Spokane warehouses, and they plan to move the company's operations there by the end of this month.

The adjacent buildings are located at 112 N. Haven and 25 N. Fiske and formerly were owned by Columbia Paint & Coatings Inc., which vacated the buildings when it shut down its operations here in 2009. DeVries' owners decline to disclose the terms of the transaction.

Mike DeVries says that for the past 30 years, the moving company, which is an Atlas Van Lines agent that moves goods across the continental U.S., has leased 80,000 square feet of space at the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, at 3808 N. Sullivan, in Spokane Valley.

The combined square footage of the recently purchased properties is more than 62,000 square feet.

Becky DeVries says that while that square footage is less than the company's current operations, the ceiling heights of the two warehouses are taller and allow stored materials to be stacked higher.

The company's offices are to be located in 7,500 square feet of space on the first floor of the Haven Street building.

DeVries Moving Packing Storage currently employs 24 people and has a fleet of 36 trucks of varying carrying capacities, Mike DeVries says. Because the bulk of the company's business occurs during the warmer months, he says its employment fluctuates seasonally.
