South Hill ski shop changes hands, to expand offerings

Manager heads up group that purchases assets of Spokane Alpine Haus

September 8, 2011
Amanda Baker

Ellsworth Sports LLC, of Spokane, has acquired the assets of Spokane Alpine Haus, a longtime specialty snow sports retail store on Spokane's South Hill.

Ellsworth Sports, for which Brian and Tara Ellsworth are the majority owners, bought the company's assets from the retail store's founder, Vince Zimmer, who started the business in 1976. Brian Ellsworth has worked at the Alpine Haus for more than seven years and spent five of those years as manager.

Since the sale, the store's 4,800-square-foot leased space, located at 2925 S. Regal, has undergone a cosmetic remodel, including a paint job, Ellsworth says.

The Alpine Haus sells winter sports equipment, clothing, and accessories with an emphasis on skis and snowboards. In the spring and summer, it features seasonal clothing and accessories for water sports, soccer, and longboards.

Ellsworth plans to introduce golf products and accessories next spring, and also to expand the store's current product lines.

"The winter will see us adding some new lines and doubling down on our ski and snowboard tuning and boot-fitting capabilities," he says. "Our most popular programs, like juniors season lease, juniors trade-in, and our 100 percent equipment guarantee will not change."

Grant Bafus, Kory Wilson, Ryan Long, and Jerrett Long are also part owners of Ellsworth Sports. The company fluctuates between three and 20 employees, depending on the season and sales levels, Ellsworth says.
