The Vault Social Club & Eatery LLC, of Spokane, plans to open a restaurant and lounge under that name this month on the first floor and basement level of the 120 N. Wall Building, which at one time served as headquarters for Sterling Financial Corp.

The leased 5,000-square-foot space has an art-deco design on the first floor that co-owners Timothy McKinney and Eric Windsor wanted to use to complement their 1920s and '30s-style restaurant and lounge. A speakeasy-style lounge will fill the basement vault area. The Proof Management Group, an affiliated company McKinney and Windsor formed to start and manage hospitality-related businesses, also has an office in that building.

The most recent tenant on the building's main floor was The Douglas Gallery.

McKinney and Windsor say the initial focus of the eatery will be lunch, happy hour, and creating a nightlife environment. They plan to bring in entertainment six days a week, Windsor says.

In the future, the Vault hopes to offer supper clubs and catering. McKinney and Windsor, along with about 30 other employees, will staff the concern.

StoneMakers of Spokane and Christopher Morlan, a Spokane architect, were responsible for renovating the space into a restaurant and lounge. A commercial kitchen and a 30-foot-long, custom-built bar were installed on the main floor, Windsor says. He declines to disclose the cost of the renovations.

McKinney has been involved in the restaurant and bar industry for two years, and Windsor has been self-employed for more than 10 years.

"Our hope is that The Vault will become a top-of-mind establishment for residents and a must-see for visitors," Windsor says. "It's not every day that you're allowed to eat and drink in an enormous, cinema-style bank vault."
