Icon wins $1.7 million job to replace roofs for STA

Spokane Valley contractor starting work this month on two buildings on Boone

Icon Corp., a Spokane Valley-based commercial roofer, has won a $1.7 million contract to replace the roofing on two Spokane Transit Authority buildings located on West Boone Avenue.

The company was scheduled to start the roofing project in early August and to complete it by the end of October.

STA spokeswoman Molly Myers says the roofing upgrades will occur on the STA headquarters building, at 1230 W. Boone, on the north side of Boone, and on another STA building directly across the street. The roof area for the two buildings is 224,000 square feet combined, Myers says.

The project will replace 25-year-old single-ply, black roofing with reflective white roofing membrane on each building and replace all existing skylights, at a total overall cost of $2.3 million.

The two buildings house administrative offices, staff, and maintenance and bus operation facilities. The upgrades are needed because of the age of the existing roofs and skylights—and as a preventive measure to avoid leaking, Myers says.

Icon Corp. Vice President Jack Johnson says the project also calls for the company to add roofing insulation to portions of the building that cover administrative offices, for an area of about 50,000 square feet.

Cortner Architectural Co., of Spokane, designed the project.

Icon has another sizable project at the Spokane International Airport, which is a $760,000 contract to replace portions of the airport complex's roofing. That work began earlier this summer.
