Mead contractor bids lowest for Grand Blvd. rehab work

$1.6 million project slated to begin in May, be done in two phases

April 7, 2011

Mountain Crest Enterprises Inc., of Mead, is the apparent low bidder for a $1.6 million project to rehabilitate Grand Boulevard on the South Hill, from 29th Avenue to High Drive.

The project is expected to begin in early May and tentatively is expected to be completed in late August, says Spokane city spokeswoman Ann Deasy.

The project includes curb-to-curb repaving of an approximately 1-mile stretch of road, as well as replacing a wastewater pipe under the southern two-thirds of that section of road, Deasy says. Curb ramps also will be updated to meet current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Work is planned to be completed in two phases, she says. The first phase is scheduled to take about three weeks to complete and will extend between 29th and 32nd avenues. Once that is complete, the city will start the second phase of work between 32nd and High Drive.

Mountain Crest Enterprises' bid came in significantly below the city's estimate of $1.74 million.
