Former McQ's revamped with restaurant, live music

Valley billiard hall, restaurant's new owners do upgrade

November 18, 2010
Kim Frlan

A new, upscale billiard hall, sports bar, and restaurant named Black Diamond Billiards & Eatery LLC has opened in the former McQ's Billiards & Sports Bar, at 9614 E. Sprague, in Spokane Valley.

Owners Steve and Kenna Legault bought the assets of McQ's and have leased the 11,300-square-foot space. The couple has spent about $250,000 remodeling it, adding a new dining area and a new sports-bar room with a stage for live music and karaoke, Steve Legault says. That work was completed in mid-October. The establishment was open for business during the remodel, he says.

The Legaults have owned Acu-Vac Power Sweeping Inc., of Concord, Calif., for 30 years, and continue to operate it with a manager, he says. They moved here three years ago, and after Legault spent two years selling insurance, he says he decided to fulfill a dream when he saw that McQ's was for sale.

"I always wanted to have a pool hall, ever since I was a kid, but pool halls don't make money, so we added the restaurant," he says.

Black Diamond Billiards has 36 league pool teams and a new dart league that use the facility weekly, Legault says. It also offers live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, and karaoke on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The restaurant serves appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, and six entrees, and offers breakfast on Sunday mornings.

The facility seats 350, and has one full-time and 11 part-time employees besides the owners, Legault says.
