Spokane Club to sell former Chamber site

Organization decides it doesn't need that space, lists it for $1.3 million

August 26, 2010
Mike McLean

The Spokane Club says it has decided to sell the former Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce building, at 1020 W. Riverside, and has listed the three-story, 20,000-square-foot structure for $1.3 million.

The club bought the building adjacent to its main five-story facility at 1002 W. Riverside in the mid-1990s, when the chamber moved to 801 W. Riverside, says Jan Quintrall, the club's board president.

At the time, the club was interested in the building because of a shortage of meeting space and for potential expansion of its athletic facilities, Quintrall says. With the rise of electronic communications, the club no longer has a need for more meeting space, and expanding other club facilities there isn't viable, she says.

The Pacific Northwest Inlander weekly newspaper leases the main and mezzanine levels of the building, and two lower levels are vacant.

Craig Soehren and Mike Livingston, both of Spokane-based Kiemle & Hagood Co., are the listing agents for the property. Soehren says he envisions the building likely will appeal to a large single user.
