A $1.6 million fire station is under construction in Spokane Valley, where it will replace a converted manufactured home currently serving as a station, says Larry Rider, deputy chief of the Spokane Valley Fire Department.

Ginno Construction Co., of Coeur d'Alene, is the contractor on the department's Station No. 10 project, located at 17217 E. Sprague. Lindquist Architects PS, of Spokane, designed it.

The 10,400-square-foot structure, being built on the north side of Sprague Avenue, a block east of Flora Road, will enable the department to put some reserve equipment into service, including a third fire truck there, Rider says.

The project is expected be completed in late October.

The station will be the second project to be funded through a six-year property tax levy voters approved in 2007. The department completed its two-bay Station No. 9, at 12121 E. 32nd, last year.

The department plans to build a new administration building next year adjacent to Station No. 8, at 2110 N. Wilbur. The department also plans to build a new Station No. 6 building, at 6306 E. Sprague during the levy period. The Spokane Valley Fire Department operates 10 stations.
