Harmony House facility to expand in Hayden

Assisted-living provider to house up to 16 residents in its third location there

April 22, 2010
Mike McLean

Siskiyou Living LLC, of Hayden, Idaho, doing business as Harmony House Assisted Living, says it's developing its third assisted-living facility there.

The $800,000, two-story building, to be called Harmony House III, is under construction at 9941 N. Maple, in Hayden, about five miles north of the Interstate 90-U.S. 95 interchange, which is in Coeur d'Alene, says Jenifer Christensen, Harmony House's administrator and co-owner of Siskiyou Living with her husband, Graham.

Harmony House provides assisted-living services for residents with mental illness, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability, Christensen says.

Williamson-Johnson Co., of Coeur d'Alene, is the contractor on the Harmony House III project, and Rice Architecture LLC, of Hayden, designed it.

The 5,700-square-foot assisted-living facility will have 16 private bedrooms, a kitchen, recreation areas, and a dining room on the main floor, says architect Scott Rice. The second floor will have office space, a conference room, and storage.

The site is just south of Harmony House II, a 16-bed facility located at 9967 N. Maple. Harmony House I, which has 13 beds, is located at 454 W. Lacey, about a mile northwest of the project site.

Eight residents will be moved from temporary quarters at 828 N. 23rd, northwest of downtown Coeur d'Alene, into Harmony House III when the building is completed in July, Christensen says. Harmony House employs 21 people altogether. That staffing level likely won't change immediately when Harmony House III opens, she says.

Christensen says demand for Harmony House's services has remained steady even during the weak economy that has slowed development for senior-oriented, assisted-living facilities.

"We're in a separate market. We specialize in mental-health issues," she says, adding that most Harmony House residents are young adults who are subsidized by Social Security and Medicaid.

Among its services, Harmony House provides daily activities, assistance with medications, behavioral-modification techniques, appointment scheduling, and transportation, she says. Harmony House has been in operation for 10 years, and Siskiyou Living bought the operation five years ago.
