Upscale barber-shop chain to move its South Hill outlet

Weldon Barber location relocates from 57th to 29th

December 10, 2009
David Cole

Spokane-based Weldon LLC, which operates the Weldon Barber salon-for-men chain, plans to move its South Hill outlet from its current location on 57th Avenue to a smaller space on 29th Avenue, in the Grapetree Village development near Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar.

Steven and Dana Ward, part owners of the salon chain, say the move, to 2021 E. 29th from 3209 E. 57th, should be completed this week. The outlet on 57th Avenue had 2,800 square feet of leased space, and the new location on 29th will have half that amount of space, says Steven Ward.

The chain's five-year lease at the 57th location has expired, and Dana Ward says the new South Hill location is closer to a larger number of Weldon Barber customers. She says many of those customers live in the Rockwood, Manito, and Comstock neighborhoods.

Bill and Suzette Nordstrom, of Spokane, are the majority owners of the Weldon chain, she says.

Baker Construction & Development Inc. is helping prepare the space for the new outlet at Grapetree Village, says Steven Ward.

The 29th Avenue location will have seven employees initially, but Ward says more cosmetologists likely will be hired. That's the same number of employees as Weldon had at the 57th Avenue location.

In addition to the South Hill outlet, Weldon Barber operates six other locations, including three others in the Spokane area, at 707 W. Main, 6320 N. Ash, and 9119 E. Broadway. The other three outlets are in Issaquah, Kirkland, and Mill Creek, Wash.

Weldon Barber salons provide haircuts, shampoos, styling, detailing, shaves, grooming, scalp massages, and other services. A Weldon "signature" service, including shampoo, hot face towel, scalp massage, hair cut, hot towel neck shave, styling, detailing of the eyebrows, ears, and nose, costs about $28.
