Mortgage loan services concern takes larger quarters in Spokane Valley

September 3, 2009
Jeanne Gustafson

UPF Services LLC, a provider of services to real estate lenders, has moved its offices to 12410 E. Mirabeau Parkway, in Spokane Valley, from its former location at 910 W. Boone, in Spokane.

The Spokane Valley-based business, which serves mostly banks, credit unions, and mortgage bankers, has expanded over the past year or so and had outgrown its previous office space, says Mark Hikel, the company's CEO.

The company provides services sometimes used in loan originations, such as flood, title, appraisal, and tax-related services, as well as services that can be useful in mortgage defaults, such as loan modifications, and also provides services related to loan servicing and commercial loans.

UPF's revenues have grown more than 30 percent in the past 18 months, and it has added eight employees to its accounting and operational fulfillment departments over the past year, Hikel says. In addition, the company has added sales executives in the Midwest and on the East Coast and currently employs a total of 37 people.

The company provides services via the Internet using one of two proprietary software applications. In addition, its customers can obtain software support through an online chat application, or over the telephone, he says.

Hikel says the company currently has about 400 customers that have between 1,200 and 1,300 offices among them. UPF has been able to expand efficiently because of the technology it uses, but likely will hire a few more employees this year, Hikel says.

Its new, 10,000-square-foot single-story leased space will give it room for anticipated continued growth, Hikel says.

Steve Schmautz, of SDS Realty Inc., and Carlos Herrera, of NAI Black, both of Spokane, handled the lease transaction, and Divcon Inc., of Spokane Valley, did the tenant improvements.

UPF, which has no physical presence outside of the Spokane area, is owned by private interests that Hikel declines to name.
