Spokane concern submits low bid for South Hill street rehab project

June 4, 2009
Jeanne Gustafson

Shamrock Paving Inc., of Spokane, is the apparent low bidder, with a bid of $798,000, for a city of Spokane project to rehabilitate a small cluster of aging streets in the Altamont Boulevard area of the South Hill this summer.

A contract for the project is expected to be signed soon, and the work is to begin at the end of June or beginning of July, says city spokeswoman Ann Deasy.

The project will include rehabilitation of North Altamont Boulevard between 11th Avenue and Ninth Avenue; Cook Street between Altamont and 14th Avenue; Woodfern Street where it intersects with Altamont; and Ninth between Altamont and Jacques Street, Deasy says.

The rehabilitation is to be a combination of grinding and overlaying the top layer of asphalt, and full-depth curb-to-curb rehabilitation.

The project is being paid for with money from a 10-year street bond and is expected to be completed by the end of August, Deasy says.

Because the section of street is residential, detours won't be posted, but during the project those roads will be marked local access only, Deasy says. At times during the project, the roads will be closed to all traffic, she says.
