Inland Asphalt submits low bid for street job

May 20, 2010
Jeanne Gustafson

Inland Asphalt Co. of Spokane, has submitted the apparent low bid, at $1.9 million, for a city of Spokane project to rehabilitate Wellesley Avenue between Division and Maple streets.

The project entails full-depth rehabilitation—removing and replacing all the asphalt along the 1-mile project route—and adding curb ramps at the intersections, says city spokeswoman Ann Deasy. The project also includes installing new traffic signals at the intersection of Wellesley and Monroe Street. It's being done in coordination with the Washington state Department of Transportation, which will replace the intersection at Wellesley and Division with a concrete intersection, Deasy says.

The project, which is being paid for with funds from the 10-year Spokane street bond, is expected to begin in mid-June, and will be completed in mid-September, Deasy says.

During that time, Wellesley will be closed in the construction zone, and all traffic will be rerouted from that stretch of Wellesley to Francis Avenue. The contractor will keep north and southbound traffic lanes open at Wellesley's intersections with Monroe and Wall streets.
