Graham erects new Walgreens outlet in Hayden

April 9, 2009

Graham Construction & Management Inc., of Spokane, is erecting a $1.8 million structure in Hayden, Idaho, that will house a Walgreens pharmacy and retail outlet.

The 14,500-square-foot building is going up at the southeast corner of U.S. 95 and Hayden Avenue, about 3.5 miles north of Interstate 90, says Tim Steinbrecher, a project manager for Graham Construction. The location is across U.S. 95 from a development site for a planned Wal-Mart Stores Inc. supercenter.

Bernardo Wills Architects PC, of Spokane, designed the project, which got under way early last month and is expected to be completed in the fall.

The Hayden outlet will be the third Walgreens store in Kootenai County, with the others in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls. Walgreens has 11 outlets in the Spokane area.

Graham recently completed a similarly sized structure for a Walgreens outlet in Moscow, Idaho, that's expected to employ 16 people when it opens this month.

Walgreen Co., the Deerfield, Ill.-based parent company of the pharmacy chain, had 6,678 Walgreens stores in the U.S. as of the end of February, including 111 in Washington state and 28 in Idaho, its Web site says.

Its goal is to grow to 7,000 stores by next year.
