Flooring business set to open showroom

February 26, 2009

A Floor Coverings International franchise outlet that sells flooring supplies to residential and commercial customers will open a showroom and storefront March 14 in an about 2,700-square-foot space at 904 E. Wellesley, says Christi Swearingen, who owns the business with her husband, Tom.

The business began operating here a year ago without a physical location and relied solely on doing in-house consultations with clients.

Swearingen says the showroom will feature kitchens, bathrooms, and flooring for customers to view. The business has incurred more than $150,000 in costs to open the showroom, she says.

Cheney-based C&D Builders served as the general contractor for the renovation work.

Floor Coverings International sells items such as carpeting, hardwood flooring, tile, granite countertops, and laminate flooring from a variety of manufacturers, and can install its products in homes or commercial spaces, says Swearingen.

The outlet here employs four people, including the owners, and will continue offering in-house consultations, she says. Floor Coverings International is based in Smyrna, Ga., just outside of Atlanta, and has more than 70 outlets in the U.S. and Canada.
