Condo project under way west of downtown

Luxury, five-unit project in BrowneÂ’s Addition expected to be completed in month

February 26, 1997
Emily Brandler

Construction is under way on a nearly $2 million luxury condominium project in Brownes Addition west of downtown Spokane, and the developer expects work will be completed there within a month.

The project, called the Grizzly Bear Luxury Condominiums, will include a four-story, 17,000-square-foot building with five condo units, and a statue of a grizzly bear will be located on the site, says John Davis, owner of a Spokane development company, Hemlock Corp., thats doing the project. Its located at the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and Hemlock Street, one block south of a townhouse-condominium complex that Coeur dAlene Park Townhomes Inc., of Odessa, Wash, built recently, says Davis, who also co-owns The Ugly Duck Inc., a retailer of discounted building materials here. An apartment building previously was located on the Grizzly Bear condo site.

The condo building will include two 1,600-square-foot units, two 2,400-square-foot units, and a 3,000-square-foot penthouse, Davis says. Prices will be in the low $300,000 to low $600,000 range, he says. The condo structure will have a ground-level parking garage.

Kanally Construction, of Spokane, is the contractor on the project, and Spokane architect Ed Klapp designed it. Sandi Talento, a real estate agent with Re/Max of Spokane, says she plans to start marketing the units early next month.
