Salt Lake City-based Kenworth Sales Co. has broken ground on a 41,500-square-foot facility in Post Falls.

The new commercial truck sales and service location will be located at 4373 W. Expo Parkway, north of the Tedder Business Center and the Red Lion Inn & Suites Post Falls.

Martha Mills, communication director for Kenworth, says the project could take 10 months to just over a year to complete.

Garco Construction Inc., of Spokane, is the general contractor on the project, and NBW Architects PA, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, designed it.

Project information on file with the city of Post Falls values the project at $6 million.

Site plans show the single-story structure will include retail space for new and used truck sales, rental and leasing office space, a repair and body shop, a paint booth and mixing room, a driver’s lounge, and an employee break room.

The site also will have a dog park and a picnic area for drivers, adds Mills.

In total, 167 parking stalls and an additional 25 trailer parking stalls are included in the plans.

About 35 people will be employed at the facility, according to a press release provided by Kenworth Sales.

“(Kenworth Sales) has been servicing this area from our Spokane location,” Ric Petersen, district manager for Kenworth Sales, says in the release. “We are always looking for ways to better serve our customers and look forward to enhancing customer experience with this new, state of the art location.”

The Journal reported in 2019 that Kenworth Sales plans to build a 60,000-square-foot facility at 9010 W. Geiger Blvd., on the West Plains, and move its operations there from its current Spokane-area facility at 6420 E. Broadway, in Spokane Valley.

Mills says the company still plans to develop the West Plains facility within the next three years.

Kenworth Sales was founded in 1945 and currently has over 1,200 employees across 31 locations.
