Premier Mfg. shelves plans for big building

February 26, 1997
Rocky Wilson

Premier Manufacturing Inc., a Liberty Lake precision sheet-metal fabricator, is withdrawing its application to the city of Liberty Lake to build a 75,000-square-foot building there, says Kevin Collins, one of three owners of the company.

Collins says the company found that the costs to construct the structure were well beyond its budget.

The city of Liberty Lake issued a notice of application in mid-June for the proposed building, which would have been built north of Appleway Road, near Huntwood Industries Inc., says Mary Wren-Wilson, environmental specialist for the city. She said the proposal to build the building had passed the public comment period, the project remained under review, and she was unaware the company was going to withdraw its application.

City records listed Liberty Builders & Design Inc., of Liberty Lake, as the contractor. Liberty Builders President Steve Emmel says the building was to be single story, with some offices located on a mezzanine.

However, the next step is up to Premier Manufacturing, says Emmel. The process is on hold.

Premier currently occupies the 35,000-square-foot former Ice World building, at 21510 E. Mission, which it bought in October 2004.

Last year, Premier absorbed an affiliated powder-coating company called I-90 Express Finishing Inc.
