Cantu buys Valley land, eyes new office building

Structure would be near year-old Mullan Centre; work could start in spring

February 26, 1997
Linn Parish

Cantu Investments LLC, of Spokane, has bought just over an acre of vacant land along Mullan Road in the Spokane Valley and is considering developing of a new office building there.

Commercial real estate broker Dan Cantu, who is part-owner of Cantu Investments, says the company could start design work on the proposed structure this fall and might break ground on it next spring.

The vacant land is just north of Mullan Centre, a two-story, 16,000-square-foot office building at 1410 N. Mullan that Cantu Investments developed late last year.

The envisioned building would be called Mullan Centre II and would be similar in size and design to its predecessor, though the interior might be configured slightly differently, Cantu says.

He says he hasnt determined how much it would cost to build the project, but the first structure cost about $2 million to develop.

Mullan Centre, which was completed last November, currently is about 90 percent leasedone 2,000-square-foot office space remains vacant.

Im surprised at how quickly it leased up given the economy and the amount of product available in the Valley, Cantu says.

Cantu and his wife, Melanie, own Cantu Investments. The couple also owns Cantu Commercial Properties LLC, a year-old commercial real estate company of which Dan Cantu is the broker.
