Auto Nation plans new dealership building in Spokane Valley

Building permits issued for $5.7M renovation

December 3, 2020

Florida-based AutoNation is planning a new car dealership and showroom in Spokane Valley, building permit documents on file with the city of Spokane Valley show.

Plans show the car dealer intends to renovate the former Mazda and Mitsubishi car dealership at 8412 E. Sprague into a more than 20,000-square-foot dealership and showroom.

AutoNation didn’t respond immediately to a request for comment.

Pittsburgh-based Rycon Construction LLC is listed as the contractor on the $5.7 million project, which was designed by Atlanta-based Praxis3.

The project name is listed as AutoNation Spokane/JLR Spokane, indicating that the new dealership likely will be a Jaguar and Land Rover sales location. JLR Automotive PLC is the holding company for Jaguar Land Rover Ltd., and other Jaguar dealership projects on Praxis3’s website are titled JLR.

Additionally, Rycon’s website lists one of its AutoNation dealership projects as a Jaguar Land Rover in Spokane.

A representative of Praxis3 declines to comment, citing a nondisclosure agreement.

The project engineer is Texas-based Foresite Group Inc.

Permits have been issued for the project. No timeline is given.

AutoNation currently operates six dealerships in Spokane County, most of which are located along Sprague Avenue.

It currently employs 280 people at its dealerships in Spokane County, according to data compiled by the Journal.

The new dealership will be located next to the existing AutoNation Chevrolet Spokane Valley dealership, at 8500 E. Sprague.

The nearly 1-acre property is owned by Appleway Chevrolet Inc., an AutoNation affiliate.

AutoNation currently operates a 17,600-square-foot Jaguar Land Rover dealership at 1310 W. Third, in Spokane.

AutoNation has over 325 locations in 18 states and employs over 21,000 people, according to the company website.

According to the company’s third-quarter earnings release, AutoNation plans to build over 100 stores in the U.S. in the coming years, with the goal of having over 50 completed by the end of 2025. It plans to open five by the end of next year.
