GarageSkins expands to meet demand

Post Falls company is gearing up to produce 10 times more product

September 14, 2023

GarageSkins Inc., a Post Falls company that produces panels to make steel garage doors look like they’re made of high-end wood, is in the process of purchasing machinery that will multiply its production capacity, says GarageSkins founder Rick Medlen.

“We launched the product a year ago, but what we have found is that the demand for it is overwhelming to what we can actually produce,” he says.

Medlen says he has been contacted by over 4,000 people interested in ordering the product. The company also has approval to have its products installed in subdivisions of upwards of 50,000 homes, says Medlen. To that end, GarageSkins has purchased a $100,000 bridge saw, to ramp up production.

The new equipment will allow the 10-person company to produce close to 50 orders per week, up from just five orders weekly, says Medlen.

Projected annual revenue for 2023 is about $700,000 due to a pause in production to retool, says Medlen. Next year, the projected annual revenue is $3.5 million, he says.

The company is currently trying to raise $2 million, through crowdsource fundraising to finance production equipment and onboard up to 60 workers so that the company has the capacity to meet demand, says Medlen.

GarageSkins was founded in 2014 by Medlen and is headquartered at 570 S. Clearwater Loop, in Post Falls. About a mile northeast of its base is the company’s 60,000-square-foot factory. GarageSkins produces a patented system of lightweight substrates with wood veneers that snap magnetically onto standard steel garage doors and transform them to appear like high-end wood doors.
