Discount outdoor-lifestyle retail chain Sierra is set to open a store Saturday, March 1, in north Coeur d’Alene.

The 20,200-square-foot store will be located within the Silverlake at 95 retail plaza, in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space at 440 W. Wilbur, next to a TJ Maxx store. The plaza is just northwest of and across U.S. 95 from the Silver Lake Mall.

Sierra offers outdoor recreation and fitness gear, apparel, footwear, and other merchandise from brand-name manufacturers, including Carhartt, Filson, Redwing, and Simms, according to a press release issued by the store chain.

“We’re excited to open Sierra’s second Idaho location and introduce our off-price shopping experience to the Coeur d’Alene community,” says Amanda Johnson, Sierra's assistant vice president and marketing director, in the release.

The company’s other Gem State store is located in the southern Idaho town of Meridian.

Representatives of the company couldn’t be reached immediately for additional comment.

Sierra is a sister company of discount department store chain TJ Maxx, the flagship chain of Framingham, Massachusetts-based TJX Cos., which operates Marshalls, another discount apparel chain, and the HomeGoods home furnishing and décor store chain.

Sierra currently is hiring new full-time and part-time store associates in Coeur d’Alene, according to the release.

The chain was founded in 1986 as Sierra Trading Post and was acquired by TJX Cos. in 2012. Sierra currently operates 117 stores, including two in western Washington, according to its website.

TJX Cos. operates one Marshalls, two HomeGoods, and three TJ Maxx outlets in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area.

To mark its arrival in Coeur d’Alene, Sierra has made a $10,000 donation to the Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho nonprofit to support affordable housing for low-income working families.

The store’s grand opening event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
