| City of Spokane ValleyThe second phase of construction is underway at Greenacres Park, in Spokane Valley, and is expected to be completed this summer.
The 8.3-acre park is located at 1311 N. Long Road, just south of Riverbend Elemetary School and just over two miles east of Spokane Valley Mall.
The phase-two project involves the construction of six pickleball courts, a tennis court, two basketball courts, a community garden, a backstop, an expanded playground and splashpad, a disc-golf putting green, shade structures and trees, expanded parking and pathways, and a paved perimeter trail.
Spokane-based SPVV Landscape Architects is the project architect and Spokane Valley-based Cameron-Reilly LLC is the contractor.
The phase-two project budget is $2 million, of which $1.5 million is funded by state and federal grants—$500,000 from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program and $1 million from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
The remaining $500,000 is funded by the city of Spokane Valley.
The Greenacres Park land was purchased in 2007 by the city for nearly $500,000, with the help of a 50% matching grant from the Washington Interagency Committee, which is now known as the Recreation and Conservation Office, according to information listed on the city’s website. It was Spokane Valley’s first new park after the city was incorporated in 2003.
The city completed the first phase of park improvements in 2012 for $1.4 million.
That phase included construction of a farm-themed playground area, a splash pad, an informal amphitheater, a shelter and stage, multi-use fields, walking paths, restrooms, a parking lot, and other amenities.
