Cities, county renew homelessness-response agreement

Accord includes enhanced data sharing, strategic grant distribution

May 23, 2025
Journal of Business Staff

The city of Spokane, city of Spokane Valley, and Spokane County have renewed an interlocal agreement to address homelessness across the region.

“This renewal ensures that local jurisdictions continue working together to provide efficient, unified, and data-driven solutions for individuals experiencing homelessness,” says Mary Kuney, chair of the Spokane County Board of Commissioners, in a press release.

Originally created to streamline efforts across multiple agencies, the interlocal agreement has evolved into a framework for communication, planning, and coordination of resource distribution.

Key components of the renewed agreement include enhanced data sharing to track homelessness trends and measure program effectiveness, regular staff coordination meetings, collaborative execution of the annual Point-In-Time Count, coordinated inclement weather response, and strategic distribution of homelessness grant funds.

“Staff across our three jurisdictions have been working closely and effectively together to build strong partnerships grounded in shared goals,” says Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown in a press release. “By continuing to collaborate, we can make more efficient use of public dollars and improve outcomes for people experiencing homeless in our communities.”
