The Spokane Regional Transportation Council has awarded about $40 million in federal funding for transportation projects across Spokane County.
A total of 21 projects have been approved to receive funding for construction, preservation, and other programs supported by SRTC.
The funds will be invested over three years, beginning in 2027.
“These investments are important for our community in addressing issues of safety, congestion, walkability, and transit access,” says SRTC executive director Lois Bollenback in a press release. “Projects that address preservation of our existing transportation system are also being funded with a set-aside provided by the SRTC board.”
Notable projects to receive funding include the Sullivan Road-Trent Avenue interchange, in Spokane Valley ($5 million); the first phase of the U.S. 2 pedestrian and multimodal enhancements, in Airway Heights ($5 million); and the second phase of the Fish Lake Trail-Centennial Trail connection, in Spokane ($4.7 million).
About $8.6 million was awarded to various projects intended to preserve and extend the lifespan of roadways.
The SRTC board of directors also approved a contingency list of projects, which will be considered if additional funding becomes available to the region.
SRTC is the lead transportation planning agency for Spokane County. The organization provides data, plans, and funding, among its services.
